Just The Facts

Trial By Fire Youth Track & Field Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community-based organization based in Nashville, TN that promotes the healthy sport of running to youth ages 8-18 years and provides opportunities to develop healthier choices and active lifestyles. With our after-school running programs, we look to improve the quality of life for children by complementing their academics with physical activity that supports health, wellness, and fitness. More importantly, we aim to create an environment that encourages and develops discipline, teamwork, healthy competition, and life long learning.

The club offers instruction that is suited to all levels of ability and is governed by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and a member of the USA Track & Field (USATF) organization. There are no salaried positions as our entire staff is made up of volunteers that are committed to teaching the fundamentals of Track & Field and long-distance running in a positive, supportive and most importantly, a fun environment that fosters proper training and athletic growth.

Over the past three years, our after-school programs have turned out some outstanding young student-athletes that have gone on to excel not only on the track but also in the classroom and within the community. Crossing the finish line is just the beginning! Young student-athletes leave our program with greater self-confidence and increased levels of fitness and endurance.

2011
For the third year straight, TBF finished a successful season by sending nine (9) student-athletes to the National Junior Olympic Games in New Orleans Louisiana, making the trip one of the most exciting and commemorative meets of the season. TBF came away with every student-athlete competing at their personal best in individual running, throwing, and jumping events. As a result of their hard work, everyone finished in the top twenty and thirty ranking of their age groups. The highlights of the Olympic games were Eric Stoxstill-Diggs 14th place finish in the midget boys Pentathlon and Alex Blades 33rd place finish in the youth boys long jump, ranking them among the national top 100th times and earning a spot on the National Elite Youth Honor Roll.

2010
During the 2010 running season, Trial By Fire Track & Field Club members have taken part in nutrition cooking classes, volunteered on service projects involving the homeless population, and competed in several local, out of state, and national championship competitions. Our team proudly brought home over seventy-five (75) medals during developmental and qualifying meets, qualified seventeen (17) student-athletes to compete on national levels, and ranked remarkable times at the AAU National Junior Olympic Games.

2009
Since our inaugural program in 2009, Trial By Fire Youth Track & Field Club has been an organization that goes beyond the running fields of competition and focus on the athlete’s full development (physically, mental, psychological, spiritual, and emotional) by providing an atmosphere where youth can positively engage in and influence their surroundings as thriving and innovating advocates, leaders, and visionaries. Today, we continue to promote our mission by building relationships with other organizations and community leaders to serve and provide young people with necessary resources to be successful in life

2008
Founded in 2008 by Kevin and Lanique Woodson, the Trial By Fire Youth Track & Field Club is the vehicle by which a group of dedicated volunteers give back to the community by introducing youth to the healthy sport of running; while fostering a fun, safe and positive environment where they are given the opportunity to develop into accountable, confident and disciplined young men and women.
